The comedy film ‘Marley and Me’ is a cinematic capture that is based on the book of John Grogan. The story tells about a story of a dog and how that dog perfectly depicted the ideals of life, love and marriage. It is a process of how certain individuals confronted the goals of family living and tried to make the best out of it.
The film currently holds a box office record on Christmas day and is still first on the box-office list on Friday, raising an estimated two-day receipts to $28.6 million. Coming along is the Oscar contender ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,’ which stars Brad Pitt, already accumulated $22 million as of Saturday. On its heels is Adam Sandler’s Bedtime Stories, which took $20.2 million, a good-almost-2-million difference from that of David Fincher’s film. Tom Cruise’s Valkyrie celebrated a two-day extimate of $16.5 million. Another Christmas day opener ‘The Spirit’ only got $6.5 million in its two-day receipts.
“One doesn’t have to be a dog lover (I’m not one) to appreciate the movie. It’s as much about love and family as it is about the specific kind of pet. The movie’s themes are universal and its anecdotes feel more real than scripted (not surprising, considering how many of them are adapted verbatim from the memoirs). Marley & Me is a crowd-pleaser, and deservedly so. It’s an enjoyable and unpretentious perspective of life that reminds us how important and rewarding the little things can be.” -James Berardinelli
