The Issue:
LOS ANGELES — Oscar winning actor Nicolas Cage caught a thief wearing one of his jackets inside his home in the middle of the night and turned him over to police, authorities said Tuesday.
Robert Furo was charged with residential burglary and remanded to jail on 100,000 dollar bail, after allegedly breaking into Cage’s oceanfront home in NewPort Beach, 80 kilometers (50 miles) south of here, said the local district attorney’s spokeswoman Farrah Emami.
“The defendant, Mr Furo, is accused of breaking into the home of the victim, Nicolas Cage … and wearing Mr. Cage’s jacket” early Monday, she said.
“Mr. Cage woke up and escorted him outside,” apparently without a struggle, called the police and had him arrested, the spokeswoman added.
Emani said the suspect has no prior criminal record and faces up to six years in prison if found guilty of the charges.
The 43-year-old, Oscar-winning star of “Leaving Las Vegas” (1995), a veteran of more than 40 movies, is the nephew of acclaimed film director Francis Ford Coppola. He also starred in David Lynch’s “Wild at Heart,” which won the Cannes Film Festival’s Palme D’Or in 1990.
Born Nicholas Coppola, the actor changed his name to avoid being repeatedly associated with his famous uncle.
The Opinion:
My only opinion is that, how would a person possibly come into a private home, considering the fact that was owned by a prominent figure? Nicholas Cage is an Oscar winner and veteran Hollywood actor. Cage is not that dupe to build a house without any proper safeguard and security on it. An inside-job could have taken place. And if I were the thief, I would be the dumbest of all fools if I would just take a jacket.*Wink*
